This summer sees Joe Longthorne celebrate 30 years since he first topped
the bill in his own summer season in Blackpool, the premier British seaside
resort for variety and entertainment.

It was back in 1987 when his name went up in lights over the North Pier for his first summer season. Joe at the time was already a TV regular and was the very first artist there to receive a standing ovation as he came onto the stage before singing one note, such was the anticipation and respect of his audiences. He totally smashed the box office records that season ; a new, exciting trend had been set for the years to come, there was to be no stopping the ‘Longthorne’ phenomenon.

Since then, it’s been one record breaking summer season after another, The
Opera House, The Grand, The North Pier Theatre and since 2013 Viva Blackpool. Holding the record for selling more tickets than anyone else in modern times with gross takings at the box offices going into millions, his name is printed twice on the Roll of Honour at the town’s Winter Gardens, a very rare achievement.

A weekend of celebrations ’30 Years By The Seaside’ on Saturday 8th &
Sunday 9th July 2017. has been planned as follows :-

BLUE PLAQUE PRESENTATION
Saturday 8th July 2017 is the day when Joe is to be presented with a
prestigious Blue Plaque on Blackpool’s North Pier, a rare honour and richly
deserved in Joe’s case to mark his success in the resort and also his
contribution to the town in the way of attracting countless visitors from
around the UK and abroad.
The ceremony is to be held in the Theatre Bar on the Pier and will
be attended by Mr Peter Sedgwick, the Pier’s owner, together with a number
of local dignitaries , Joe’s honoured guests and local press. Joe would
like to share this afternoon with you all and we are pleased to say there
are a limited number of tickets now available for this afternoon, which

30 YEARS BY THE SEASIDE GALA EVENING
Joe’s 2017 summer residency at Viva Blackpool opens on Sunday 9th July
2017 with a gala evening ’30 Years Beside The Seaside’ with Joe and the
band. Leye D Johns will compere the evening with a glittering host of guest
