Hi Everyone,
Yes it’s me…. feel it’s time for a few words again, I’ve missed our little chats. In case you are wondering, I’m at home in Blackpool, this autumn’s been glorious but the winter winds are now starting to blow. In the months since July when I underwent surgery , my home and garden have been a peaceful haven, there’s nothing more I like than a gentle stroll round the grounds with Kennedy at my side and my four ‘girls’ ,the chickens, chattering away.
Before I say anything else I do have to thank all of you who have prayed for me and sent cards and letters of support and love, gifts and donations for the Foundation and other charities. Your kindness and thoughts for me are deeply appreciated beyond mere words.. ‘Thank You’ from the bottom of my heart.
Since I last spoke to you all, I have continued to rest and relax to aid my recovery and it’s proved to be very healing. You all know what I’m like, wanting to get back up and running straight away. Well, I will admit that I really did not think the 12 hour surgery for mouth cancer would affect me quite as much as it has. My specialist Mr Akhtar warned me it would be a marathon rather than a sprint and how right he was. It’s been a rough bumpy road at times, any of you who have been through serious illness will know. I am feeling better as each day passes, Mr Akhtar and his wonderful team at the Royal Preston Hospital are delighted with my progress, so, with 2015 dawning over the horizon I will be returning to my beloved stage just as soon as I feel I’m ready.
We started the tour back in the Spring with so much promise for the year ahead and then suddenly I was receiving the devastating news that once again I had to face up to another battle with cancer. Thanks to the skill and dedication of my consultant and all their medical team I am able to sit here today conveying this message to you all. My life has always been a roller coaster, when the chips are down I always choose to fight as hard as I can. Each day finds me stronger but it’s taken five months to really start to get back on the green.
I’m recording a Christmas video message to accompany this post , it’s another great way of keeping the connection with you all. I’m chuffed to know that so many of you have enjoyed watching the previous messages although I did decide to take some time away from the camera and just concentrate on myself and my well being.
While at home I’ve been working on new music and projects, including my 60th Birthday Concert at The London Palladium next May 31st. I’m thrilled that the tickets are selling fast and hope to see as many of you as possible in the Palladium on the night. Life is a funny thing really, the years seem to pass by so quickly, in fact too quickly, it’s so important to stop and smell the roses along the way if you can. My ‘big’ birthdays in the past have been marked with special concerts and the Palladium next May will be ‘the’ show to top the lot. Plans and scripts are already drafted out and I’m thrilled at the prospect of performing at the London Palladium for my 60th Birthday and it will be recorded.
I expect you are all preparing for the big day. James is doing a great job as always getting everything organised for the 25th.. I have to mention here that the true Christmas spirit is to care about others rather than just yourselves. So I am going to ask you all that if you have senior citizens or indeed anyone alone in your neighbourhood who needs a bit of company for Christmas please consider doing something to help. The nativity story tells of how Joseph and Mary were given shelter in a stable as their baby Jesus came into the world. Without getting political it’s always good to remember this story and offer help to those in need especially at this time of the year. Indeed, if you feel in need of any help don’t be afraid to ask.
A sincere note of thanks and appreciation to the very talented people in my 'team', you know who you are.
Well it’s time for me to sign off now, I hope to be seeing all of you sometime soon. Until then my fondest regards to you in this festive time. God Bless and a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from me, James and Kenny.
Love Joe
